If you like grand landscapes, interesting areas, good fencing and equipment and a bit of fun, this two-day “best practice” trip is for you and your partner, or crew.
Itinerary
Day 1 – Thursday 23 November
Through Awatere Valley, Molesworth to Hanmer Springs
- 8.30am: Meet at 85 Dumgree Road, Blenheim
- 8.45am: Health & safety briefing
- 9.00am: Depart
- 10.30am : Upcot Station, with host Bill Stevenson. Look over some high-country work, old set of saleyards, travel up to Upcots Saddle for spectacular views (if weather permits)
- 1.00pm: Molesworth Station with host Jim Ward. Short talk on the biggest farm in NZ – Molesworth Cob Cottage. Packed lunch is supplied.
- 4.30pm: Arrive Hanmer Springs Retreat. Accommodation booked by FCANZ but at participants cost (includes breakfast)
- 6.00pm: Buffet dinner at the Five Stags (at participants cost).
Day 2 – Friday 24 November
- 8.00am: Breakfast at Hanmer Springs Retreat
- 8.45am: Health & safety briefing
- 9.00am: Enter MacDonald Downs
- 1st stop: Look over some high country fencing and off-road tracks.
- 2nd stop: Meet with Bill Paterson, and learn the station’s history. Have lunch and view high-country fencing. Packed lunch is supplied.
- Rest of Day: Travel through Lees Valley out onto Rangiora.
- 6.30pm: Set menu dinner at The Plough Hotel, Rangiora (at participants cost). Stay overnight in Rangiora or head home.

- Limited to 30 vehicles
- FCANZ members, employee members and their partners only
- Minimum age – 16 years.
- Suitable for participants with their own 4WD vehicle
